Filerman has been a leader healthcare management education. He helped create many of healthcare management programs in the U.S. and abroad including CAHME which credentials graduate health administration programs. He has also authored 85 books and articles as well as consulted with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, The World Bank, and over 100 universities in 35 countries. He currently leads the Atlas Health Foundation. The endowed Filerman Prize is the highest recognition for achievement in the field of health services administration education.
